In Uru Lokpaukwu, a village in the Nigerian bush, the women of the village community have done something extraordinary: they began building a school through their own efforts. Without external help, without any guarantee that anyone would come. HIFA did not disappoint their trust.
What makes this project special
The village community began the school building through their own efforts – without knowing whether anyone would help. Precisely where personal initiative is this strong, a project is bound to succeed. HIFA supported the already-started work and brought it to completion, rather than replacing it.
The women of the village turned to Fr. Josephat, HIFA’s liaison on the ground. He passed on the request, coordinated the support, and was also able to win over a women’s religious order that sent sisters to Uru Lokpaukwu. The sisters have been organizing the school operations ever since.
What was achieved together
Support the Uru Lokpaukwu School now
The school is open – but it continues to need support for teaching materials, ongoing costs and operations.
